 Get eyeballs and wallets? It’s not crazy talk!

Think of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as the bullhorn blasting your voice beyond the throngs of similar players on the web. Want your visitors to draft you over next guy? Game your pages with the right keywords and phrases–in the right places–to lift you to the top of the search engine results. So now you’re a Google champ. Yay, you! But what’s next? Are your visitors converting to buyers? All the SEO in the world doesn’t matter if your visitors aren’t compelled to act. And you’re not running a business for moral victories.

 Widgets, good widgets, small widgets, big widgets is NOT effective SEO.

That’s keyword stuffing. Unimaginative. Boring. Be a slave to the search engines and your visitors will leave you in droves. There’s a balance between readibility and relevant SEO. See Web Copywriting for more information.

I prefer to brainstorm SEO before a single piece of code has been written. This may not be possible in all cases. But I find it makes things easier (and cheaper for my clients) to plan SEO upfront as a blended effort with creative side of website copywriting.
